From 2010

CSCS will not provide the archive facilities (Adula) for production projects.

Overview

The implementation of the archival service at CSCS is based on the SamFS HSM software running on two Sun/Solaris servers, connected to Sun/StorageTek disk arrays and tape libraries.

The whole system is seen from the network as a simple fileserver with NFS and FTP access. The only difference is that users can store data endlessly and never fill the disk (but please don't try!), offering a virtually infinite storage space.

Every file stored on that network shared filesystem, is automatically copied on tape cartridges; those files are continuously and transparently migrated back and forth as they are stored or retrieved by users, providing the illusion of an infinite storage space.

Note:
the archive has scheduled monthly maintenance every first monday of the month.
It is unavaliable from all systems until it is mounted in your home directory again
