Visualization and Graphics Tutorial

 

CSCS is pleased to announce 2-day training course on visualization and graphics.

Prerequisites

You will need to bring a laptop computer with the capability of ssh access to CSCS machines.

Beginner level in Python

The Agenda:

Day 1 (9:30am - 12:20am):

  • Introduction, objectives (9:30-9:45)
  • Matplotlib, a python 2D data plotting library (9:45-10:30)
  • Break (10:30-10:50)
  • VTK Charts and Infovis: Introduction by example (10:50-11:20)
  • The Visualization Pipeline. Introduction (11:20-11:50)
  • Data formatting for 3D Visualization (11:50-12:20)
  • Lunch Break (12:20-14:00)

Day 1 (2pm-5pm):

  • ParaView, an open-source turn-key 3D data visualizer (14:00-15:00)
  • ParaView-specific Features (15:00-15:30)
  • Break (30 min) (15:30-16:00)
  • Parallel and client-server usage from the outside to CSCS (16:00-16:30)
  • Interactive sessions vs. batch-oriented scripting (16:30-17:00)

Day 2 (9:00am - 12:00am):

  • VisIt, an open-source turn-key 3D data visualizer (9:00-10:00)
  • VisIt-specific Features (10:00-10:30)
  • Break (10:30-11:00)
  • Parallel and client-server usage from the outside to CSCS (11:00-11:30)
  • Interactive sessions vs. batch-oriented scripting (11:30-12:00)
  • Lunch Break (12:00-13:30)

Day 2 (1:30pm-3:30pm):

  • Customization via plugins for ParaView and VisIt (13:30-14:30)
  • In-situ Visualization (14:30-15:00)
  • Custom UIs and light-weight tools (15:00-15:30)
