Lake water to cool supercomputers

November 3, 2011 - High-performance computing centres use a great deal of electricity. In order to run its new computer centre in Lugano-Cornaredo as energy-efficiently and cost-effectively as possible, CSCS is using the natural resource of Lake Lugano to cool its supercomputers and the new building.

 

 

Ambassador of the United States of America visits CSCS

October 7, 2011 - CSCS is on the cutting edge of supercomputing worldwide,” says Donald Beyer, Ambassador of the United States of America. The American ambassador in Switzerland pays the CSCS a visit. A technology and science enthusiast, the diplomat was suitably impressed.

September 30, 2011 - The CSCS User Day brought together around 60 users in Lucerne on 23 September. Exciting scientific lectures, lively two-minute personal poster presentations by scientists and discussions were the order of the day in Lucerne.
