March 20, 2013 - With a new supercomputer named "Piz Daint" CSCS triples the computing resources made available to Swiss researchers. Piz Daint is the first and largest Cray XC30 supercomputer installed worldwide.

Septemebr 25, 2012 - 25 research teams applied for computing time at the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) during the time period October 2012 to September 2013. The peer reviewers found that multiple proposals were excellent in content.

September 3, 2012 - Visitors from Ticino, northern Switzerland and Italy showed great interest in both the computer centre infrastructure and the use scientists make of the supercomputers that are housed in the new CSCS facility.

Inauguration of new CSCS building by Federal Coucillor Berset
Switzerland has a new building for its national supercomputing centre (CSCS) that will be inaugurated 31 August 2012 by Federal Councillor Alain Berset.
The construction of the new building was made possible thanks to the national supercomputing and networking strategy. High-performance-computing has become a key element in securing scientific competitiveness. Demand for compute power from scientists continues to grow. Today simulation is an established pillar of scientific method alongside theory and experiment.
CSCS moves into new computer centre in Lugano
March 12, 2012 - The staff at CSCS have moved to their new office at Lugano-Cornaredo. The new ultra-modern office building will provide ideal working conditions for this innovative team of people. The supercomputers will follow in April, where they will be installed in the new facility which is to house Switzerland's high-performance computers for the next 40 years.
Lake water to cool supercomputers
November 3, 2011 - High-performance computing centres use a great deal of electricity. In order to run its new computer centre in Lugano-Cornaredo as energy-efficiently and cost-effectively as possible, CSCS is using the natural resource of Lake Lugano to cool its supercomputers and the new building.

October 7, 2011 - CSCS is on the cutting edge of supercomputing worldwide,” says Donald Beyer, Ambassador of the United States of America. The American ambassador in Switzerland pays the CSCS a visit. A technology and science enthusiast, the diplomat was suitably impressed.
