HPC USER FORUM

Hotel De La Paix
Free

The Swiss National Supercomputing Centre is pleased to announce the HPC User Forum that will be held from October 7 to 8, 2019 at the Hotel De La Paix in Lugano, located in the Italian area of Switzerland.

It is the first time that CSCS has the pleasure to host the HPC User Forum. The meeting will offer a review of key trends in high-performance computing, with representation of Swiss, European and U.S. perspectives. Special focus will be given to the positioning of Switzerland in the (European) HPC landscape with a presentation by Peter Brönnimann (State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation) and by the Director of CSCS, Thomas Schulthess. Thomas Lippert (PRACE Council Chair) with update about PRACE and Kimmo Koski (CSC) will present the goals for the Pan-European supercomputer.

Different presentations on the second day will focus on topics related to weather predictions and climate. Andreas Mueller (ECMWF) will focus on energy efficiency of meteorological codes at exascala, Rob Aulwes (Los Alamos National Laboratory) will speak about accelerating Climate codes on GPU. Additional presentations from international speakers will inform you about other developments in HPC.

The HPC User Forum Steering Committee and Hyperion Research invite interested HPC community members to reserve a seat at one or both HPC User Forum meetings that will take place during the same week in Lugano, where the Swiss National Supercomputing Center (CSCS) is located, and EPCC/University of Edinburgh in October.  The meetings will begin and end at midday, to make same-day travel easier. Registration and food/refreshments are free, but space is strictly limited. Seats will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
