CSCS develops and provides key supercomputing capabilities for solving important problems in science and society. CSCS is offering internships in the field of High Performance Computing that will allow students to explore and develop innovative technologies and algorithms.

Topics

CSCS publish once a year (usually in October/ November) several topics of interests. Students can only apply for those topics by a specific deadline. Usually the deadling for applications is the first or second week of January.

Candidate requirements:

  • Be a master student enrolled in a Swiss University for the whole duration of the internship in one of the following fields: Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or related fields (Ph.D. students will not be considered).
  • The internship must be a mandatory part of the curriculum of your studies. If not, the internship can be performed during the summer break or the Urlaubsemester (ETH students only).
  • Be a team player and feel comfortable working in an international environment.

Candidate selection

All applications will be reviewed by a committee comprising HR and supervisors (defined by the topics). Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by the supervisors.

The duration of the internship should be 2–6 months. During this period the intern will be mentored by and collaborating with HPC experts in the centre. A salary of 2’500.00 CHF/month is granted.

Internship supervisor

The CSCS Internship Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the work of the student intern. The supervisor also provides a description of the learning goals of the internship and the intern's responsibilities to achieve these goals. The Supervisor will provide an evaluation of the student's internship performance. The student will provide a final report on the experience at CSCS and the supervision.
