Named after the Brienzer Rothorn, which is a mountain in the Swiss Alps on the border between the cantons of Lucerne, Berne and Obwalden. With an elevation of 2350m above sea level, the Brienzer Rothorn is the highest summit of the range lying west of the Brünig Pass (1008m). On its south side it overlooks Lake Brienz.
The SGI Altix UV 1000, Rothorn, is a general-purpose system featuring large amount of addressable memory (2 TB of RAM in total).
Rothorn has 16 blades for a total of 32 CPU Intel(R) Xenon(R) CPU E7- 8837 at 2.67 GHz, that is 256 cores and 2 TB of RAM. However at most 254 cores are available for jobs submitted by users, since 2 cores are reserved by root.
