Dear Members of the CSCS User Community,

We would like to invite you to join CSCS Staff for an event at the Planetarium of the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 11:30. After the visit, you are also kindly invited to a small apéro from 12:30 to 13:00.

Every year, CSCS organizes a staff excursion for all its employees. This year we decided to have a full day excursion in Lucerne on Friday, September 22, 2017. In the morning, we will visit the Swiss Museum of Transport (Verkehrshaus) with a special and private session at the Planetarium. For this session, we would like to open the participation also to our User Community, a great opportunity to get all together and discover something new and interesting.

The Planetarium is a prime spot for awakening the interest in science in a broad audience! What once began as a night sky simulator inspiring its visitors to reach out for the stars is now a tool with almost endless possibilities for scientists and artists alike. What are the chances and capabilities for science and science communication in a modern planetarium dome? Let's find out in an exclusive demo of one of the world’s most modern installations of its kind at the Swiss Museum of Transport!

During this visit, we will also have the worldwide first screening of a scientific simulation produced by our colleagues of the University of Zurich. A journey across the largest N-body simulation in Astrophysics so far, consisting in two trillion particles describing the large-scale structure of the universe. The simulation was run by the group of Joachim Stadel and collaborators at UZH, using the Piz Daint supercomputing system of CSCS. The simulation aims at describing with unprecedented accuracy the distribution of mass in the universe with the main objective of tuning the set-up of the upcoming EUCLID mission.

If you are interested in participating, please register by Monday, September 18, 2017 (limited seats available!).

Please note that this event is open only to our User Community and we will check every single registration.

For further information please contact Angela Detjen, angela.detjen(at)cscs.ch.

We hope to see you there!
